Choosing a city in Israel is mostly a question of what your budget buys there. A square metre in Tel Aviv-Yafo asks 2.8 times what it asks in Ashdod. Here are ten of the country's most-searched cities ranked four ways, from 45,392 homes listed right now.

Tel Aviv-Yafo is the most expensive of the ten at ₪52,500 per m², followed by Givatayim (₪38,602) and Herzliya (₪37,500). The least expensive are Ashdod (₪19,045) and Haifa (₪19,577).

The typical asking rent runs from ₪3,000 a month in Haifa to ₪12,500 in Herzliya. Rent is not the whole bill — the agent's fee, the security cheque and municipal tax (arnona) come on top.
